About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. The North Dakota Museum of Art is seeking a motivated and dependable Federal Work Study student employee with an interest in the arts to join our team as a Gallery Attendant. Gallery Attendants serve as the first point of contact for Museum visitors by welcoming guests, staffing the information desk, and assisting with admissions, memberships, and Gift Shop sales. Student employees also support a variety of Museum operations, such as exhibition installations, special events, mailings, visitor data entry, educational programs, and overall maintenance of the Museum and its grounds. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional museum setting while learning about contemporary art, nonprofit operations, community engagement, and coordinating events. Students will work with Museum staff, volunteers, artists, and community members to develop excellent customer service skills and communication, while building connections with UND’s campus and the Greater Grand Forks community. Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently while taking direction and working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and instructions
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, utilizing email, etc.)
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform light physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active driver’s license
  • Must meet UND's Federal Work Study requirements and guidelines
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new software
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

  • An interest in art, museums, education, or nonprofit organizations is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors and provide excellent customer service at the front desk and Museum Gift Shop.
  • Keep count of daily visitor admissions, memberships, and assisting guests with parking validation.
  • Answering phones, responding to general inquiries, and directing visitors around the Museum.
  • Assist with the Museum's exhibition installations, public programs, receptions, and special events.
  • Help prepare and restore the gallery spaces, and educational materials for tours and programs.
  • Assist with inventory management and merchandising/updating the Museum Gift Shop and managing cash transactions in a responsible manner.
  • Supporting Museum staff with office tasks including filing, copying, data entry, and various mailings, and completing additional projects as assigned in support of the Museum's operations.
  • Assist with photography, social media, marketing projects, or other communications depending on individual skills/capabilities.
