About The Position

The Gallery Attendant is a Full-Time position responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the museum by attending roll-call, participating in training, complying with policies, advising staff and visitors, giving directions, maintaining appearance, performing in drills and emergencies, performing light custodial work, and using a radio for communication. This role requires reliability, punctuality, and the ability to act as a supervisor when needed, working flexible schedules including overtime, holidays, weekends, and evening events. Light computer use for email and schedules is also required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • Must interact with Museum staff and visitors in a polite and courteous manner.
  • Must be dedicated to duty, possess good judgment and discretion, while being diligent in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Attendance must be reliable and punctual.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Aptitude for learning and using business software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Effective interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to act as a supervisor when needed.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and hours, including overtime, holidays, weekends, and evening events.

Nice To Haves

  • College experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Gallery experience preferred.
  • Experience in scheduling a large number of staff is preferred.
  • Knowledge of security principles is helpful.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention is helpful.
  • Knowledge of job safety is helpful.
  • Knowledge of first aid is helpful.
  • Prior museum experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Attend roll-call prior to shift for inspection and assignment; receive information pertaining to assignment of the day.
  • Participate in training in emergency procedures.
  • Comply with general orders, policies and procedures.
  • Make suggestions, convey observations and acquired information to his or her supervisor.
  • Firmly yet politely advise Museum staff and visitors of Museum policies.
  • Give directions and answer questions.
  • Constantly move through assigned area or observe from an assigned stationary location.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance and meet uniform specifications.
  • Perform in drills and respond to emergencies as required by Museum policies and procedures.
  • Perform light custodial work as required for daily assignment. May be required to lift or carry items as part of this task.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Light computer use to obtain email and schedules for work.
  • Use a radio or similar communication device to receive and transmit information.
