About The Position

The Andy Warhol Museum is seeking a Part-Time Gallery Associate to welcome individuals and groups, serve as an approachable and enthusiastic presence, and protect the collection. This role requires familiarity with the Visitor Services Department to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive visitor experience. The Gallery Associate will demonstrate excellent customer service, monitor visitor behavior, provide information about exhibitions and programs, enforce museum policies, handle admission transactions, sell memberships, oversee the coat check, and strive to exceed visitor expectations. Responsibilities also include fulfilling visitor accommodation requests such as sighted guides, limited ASL assistance, and providing wheelchairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of previous experience in retail or other public contact employment.
  • Cash handling experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to be trained on Tessitura ticketing system.
  • Ability to handle cash and credit card transactions and balance cash drawer.
  • Weekend and evening hours required.
  • A love of museums and an interest in art is required.
  • Considerable walking and standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to move throughout the museum.
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer and to manually fill out forms.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check (or proof of application) are required.

  • Performing admission transactions using a computerized ticketing system for upcharge exhibits and events.
  • Selling memberships.
  • Providing information concerning the facility, collection, and exhibitions.
  • Overseeing coat check.
  • Meeting and exceeding visitor expectations.
  • Fulfilling visitor accommodation requests, including sighted guide, limited ASL assistance, and providing wheelchairs.
  • Acquiring information, product knowledge, and skill development for successful performance.
  • Participating in trainings on protecting and monitoring the art collection and exhibitions.
  • Learning how to keep artwork safe from damage and how to investigate, observe, and report unusual conditions.
  • Participating in trainings and demonstrating knowledge of current and upcoming exhibitions and programs.
  • Attending training and demonstrating competency in accessibility-related visitor service.
  • Attending emergency preparedness training and demonstrating understanding of emergency procedures.
  • Responding to emergency situations in accordance with prescribed policies.
  • Communicating with the public in a courteous and sensitive manner.
  • Demonstrating commitment to inclusion and accessibility efforts.
  • Explaining museum visitor policies.
  • Patrolling and monitoring assigned areas to assure safety and security.
  • Following security routines in opening and closing galleries.
  • Cooperating as a front-line team with all staff to provide seamless visitor service.
  • Demonstrating respect and dignity to co-workers and visitors.
  • Acting in a proactive manner to maintain a safe environment.
  • Explaining admission policies and operating the Ticketing and Reservation System.
  • Being responsible for the accuracy of admissions monies.
  • Counting and signing for correct amounts of money needed for cash operating funds.
  • Conducting a double count of cash operating funds and balancing the daily batch.
  • Assisting in wayfinding and providing directions.
  • Acting as a greeter to welcome visitors.
  • Answering questions and providing assistance.
  • Resolving visitor requests, problems, or concerns.
  • Completing transactions as needed.
  • Providing onsite support for members.
  • Greeting school groups and assisting in storing coats and lunches.
  • Keeping in-gallery exhibition materials stocked and orderly.
  • Keeping the admission desk clean and orderly.
  • Performing operator-level maintenance on TRS, including changing printer tapes.
  • Keeping necessary forms and materials stocked.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
