About The Position

The Guggenheim Gallery Assistant supports the daily operation of the gallery while developing a particular area of responsibility in gallery and curatorial administration. All Gallery Assistants share general responsibilities, including supervising exhibitions, maintaining clean and organized gallery spaces, assisting visitors and public programs, and supporting exhibition installation, artwork handling, and gallery operations. In addition to these shared responsibilities, the Gallery and Curatorial Administration Assistant provides administrative and curatorial support for exhibitions, research, documentation, artist and curator communication, and special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise exhibitions during gallery hours.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional gallery spaces.
  • Assist visitors and support public programs and events.
  • Support exhibition installation and deinstallation (breakdown).
  • Handle, pack, transport, and store artwork safely.
  • Maintain artwork inventory, condition reports, and related records.
  • Assist with event logistics, scheduling, and daily gallery operations.
  • Contribute to the general operation of the gallery regardless of area of specialization.
  • Assist with exhibition research, planning, preparation, and documentation.
  • Maintain artist, exhibition, program, and administrative records.
  • Communicate with artists, curators, students, faculty, and gallery partners.
  • Prepare exhibition checklists, labels, interpretive materials, and other documentation.
  • Conduct research on artists, artworks, exhibitions, and related topics.
  • Support the development of exhibition publications, presentations, and special projects.
  • Assist with curatorial research, interpretation, and exhibition development as appropriate based on experience and interest.
  • Provide administrative support for gallery operations and exhibition-related activities.
