About The Position

The GAINS Assistant Program Director is responsible for the daily supervision and safety of participants. This role involves supervising youth counselors, planning and leading daily activities, teaching and supervising organized games, and ensuring compliance with city and state agency regulations. The Assistant Program Director will also assist in developing daily schedules, overseeing program matters, maintaining records, managing attendance, and ensuring a respectful and disciplined environment for all participants. Additionally, this role supports student participation in activities, assists with performances, and helps with snack/meal preparation and distribution, as well as general cleaning of program areas. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Director.

Requirements

  • Comfortable and adaptable to working with children and youth.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • 2-3 years of work experience with school-aged children (under 13 years of age).
  • An associate’s degree in child development, elementary education or related field OR two years of college with 18 credits in a related field OR a School-Age Child Care credential.
  • One year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must receive at least 15 hours of in-service training on specified subjects during the first year of operation and 30 hours of in-service training each two years thereafter.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certification (or be willing to attain training to meet requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Attend all required training sessions, staff meetings, and parent meetings.
  • Be a team player and work for the advancement of the program.
  • Assist the GAINS Director.
  • Provide daily supervision and ensure the safety of participants.
  • Supervise youth counselors (high school students).
  • Plan and/or follow daily activity schedules for participants.
  • Lead participants to and from all activity areas and field trips.
  • Teach and supervise organized games and activities.
  • Supervise SYEP participants, group leaders, and program aides.
  • Interact with city and state agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Assist in developing the daily schedule for the program.
  • Assist in overseeing all matters related to the summer program.
  • Assist in maintaining campers’ records up to date and readily available for inspections.
  • Assist in managing on-line attendance.
  • Treat students with respect, avoiding screaming, degrading, insulting, teasing, or physically abusing children.
  • Encourage mutual respect among participants.
  • Teach and discipline children according to Child Care Regulations.
  • Ensure student participation in the development and implementation of activities.
  • Assist with all student performances.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of snacks/meals.
  • Plan and implement active and diverse gym programs.
  • Follow and implement curriculum as provided by the program.
  • Assist with the general cleaning of all program areas.
  • Perform other responsibilities as the Director deems necessary.
