About The Position

The G&G Grounds Technician performs assigned labor tasks to help maintain outdoor areas at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, primarily outside the golf course boundaries. The role involves manual labor and safe operation of manual and powered equipment. The employee works as part of a team, may help train or lead coworkers on assigned tasks, and may assist other departments when requested. The position requires adaptability to changing assignments, the ability to work independently for much of the day after receiving appropriate training, and readiness to work outdoors in Northern Michigan’s seasonal weather. Standard start times are generally between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. No prior experience is necessary; similar experience and prior outdoor work are helpful. Native American Preference applies. Passing a background investigation and drug screen is a condition of employment.

Requirements

• No prior experience is necessary.
• Ability to learn new tasks with proper training and complete assignments without direct supervision for most of the day.
• Ability to work outdoors in Northern Michigan’s varying seasonal conditions.
• Willingness and readiness to work very early mornings; standard start times are generally between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
• Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment.
• Polite and thoughtful conduct toward guests and coworkers.
• Ability to perform manual labor, including extended shoveling, raking, operating a gas-powered string trimmer, and working on the knees.
• Ability to sit for extended periods on rough-riding power equipment when necessary.
• Ability to bend frequently and lift objects from the ground.
• Ability to lift awkward objects weighing up to 60 pounds and sometimes more, from the ground to at least waist height.

Responsibilities

• Maintain positive rapport with fellow employees and reflect a positive attitude.
• Complete assigned tasks and other duties as assigned.
• Follow grooming and dress standards in the Employee Handbook.
• Maintain communication with the direct supervisor.
• Perform grounds-maintenance labor, including shoveling, raking, mowing, planting flowers, and trimming trees and shrubs.
• Operate manual and powered equipment safely and properly to complete assigned tasks.
• Work with others as a team to complete assignments.
• Report to work on time and complete scheduled shifts.
• Attend monthly safety meetings and scheduled department meetings.
• Assist other departments when requested.
• Help train other employees on certain tasks when necessary.
• Follow the environmental practices of Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.
• Take initiative and look for ways to improve performance.
• Lead coworkers in completing assignments when direct supervisors cannot remain with the task.
• Adapt to occasional last-minute requests and changes in assignments.
