About The Position
The FV Maintenance-Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal operation and longevity of fishing vessel machinery and equipment. This position involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and executing repairs to minimize downtime and maintain safety standards. The mechanic will work closely with the vessel crew to monitor equipment performance and implement preventive maintenance schedules. By maintaining the mechanical integrity of the vessel, the role directly supports the vessel’s operational efficiency and compliance with maritime regulations. Ultimately, the FV Maintenance-Mechanic contributes to the safe and successful completion of fishing operations through expert mechanical support.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably in marine or fishing vessel maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in physically demanding environments.
Nice To Haves
- Certification in marine mechanics or related technical field.
- Experience with electrical systems and welding.
- Familiarity with maritime safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance management systems.
- Previous experience working on commercial fishing vessels.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on engines, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components of the fishing vessel.
- Diagnose mechanical failures and execute timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory to ensure compliance and facilitate future servicing.
- Collaborate with vessel crew to identify potential mechanical issues and recommend improvements or replacements.
- Ensure all mechanical work adheres to safety protocols and maritime regulatory standards.
