The Los Rios Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position. The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for teaching assigned classes, helping students master course content, assessing student learning outcomes, maintaining up-to-date knowledge in their field, continuing professional development, utilizing current technology, maintaining professional conduct and ethics, assisting with curriculum development, serving on college committees, and fulfilling other assigned responsibilities. The instructional assignment may include providing funeral service education to students in the Funeral Service Education Program. Subject areas may include Funeral Service Directing, Merchandising, Counseling, Management, Law and Ethics, and Embalming. Specific courses may include FSE 297 Practicum in Funeral Service Education, FSE 300 Introduction to Funeral Service, FSE 312 Funeral Directing II, FSE 330 Merchandising in the Funeral Service Industry, FSE 365 Embalming II, and FSE 370 Funeral Service Counseling. The department's primary focus is on explaining the importance of funeral service professionals, identifying ethical conduct standards, interpreting laws, applying public health and safety principles in handling remains, demonstrating technical skills in embalming and restorative art, conducting arrangement conferences, describing disposition procedures, addressing grief-related needs, explaining management skills for funeral establishments, and demonstrating communication and research skills. As an accredited mortuary college program, the department emphasizes preparing students to be members of a human services profession and the community, understanding the relationship between bereaved families and funeral service professionals, and maintaining sensitivity to public health, safety, and welfare in caring for human remains.
