About The Position

The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas is one of the leading civil rights organizations in the Lone Star State. We work in courts, legislatures, and communities to protect and extend the rights of Texans throughout the state. The ACLU of Texas is both a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization. The ACLU of Texas operates professional offices in Houston, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, and Brownsville, Texas. The Fundraising Coordinator supports the organization’s development efforts by managing donor data, processing gifts, coordinating stewardship activities, and assisting with fundraising events and campaigns. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain positive relationships with donors and internal teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years' experience in event planning, fundraising, marketing, business administration in a not-for-profit industry
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Continuing education in nonprofit management, communications, or related field.
  • Familiarity with fundraising best practices and donor engagement strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Donor Stewardship & Engagement (35%)
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with mid-level donors (typically under $5,000).
  • Assist in identifying and researching potential sponsors, grants, and individual donors.
  • Coordinate donor engagement activities before, during, and after events.
  • Draft donor acknowledgments, impact reports, and stewardship communications.
  • Support fundraising campaigns and targeted appeals.
  • Gift Processing & Database Management (45%)
  • Accurately process and record all gifts (checks, credit cards, ACH/EFTs, in-kind donations) in the CRM system (such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, etc.).
  • Prepare and send timely gift acknowledgments and tax receipts.
  • Maintain donor data integrity and update contact information regularly.
  • Generate and distribute reports to support fundraising analysis and campaign tracking.
  • Assist with financial reconciliation and annual audit processes in collaboration with Finance.
  • Event & Campaign Support (10%)
  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising events and donor appreciation activities.
  • Coordinate event sponsorship benefits and ensure fulfillment of deliverables.
  • Prepare materials for donor meetings, site visits, and fundraising presentations.
  • Administrative Support (10%)
  • Schedule development-related meetings and maintain internal calendars.
  • Coordinate mailings for campaigns and special events, including working with vendors and mail houses.
  • Respond promptly to donor inquiries and maintain confidentiality of donor records.
