About The Position

We are seeking outgoing, socially aware individuals to join our North Hollywood fundraising team. As a Face-to-Face Fundraiser / Canvasser, you will represent leading international human rights and humanitarian organizations through face-to-face outreach across the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles. Your role will involve speaking with members of the public about urgent nonprofit campaigns, explaining the importance of the work, and inviting them to become recurring donors. Campaign assignments may vary and could focus on issues such as migrants' and refugees' rights, human rights protections, emergency aid, communities affected by conflict or disaster, and humanitarian development programs. Most openings are for street fundraising, but some may involve door-to-door fundraising. This is a paid, hourly position, not volunteer petitioning or commission-only work.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Ability to walk and stand for most of a 7-hour shift
  • Ability to reliably commute to North Hollywood and rotating outreach locations
  • Commitment to at least 3 full shifts each week
  • Enjoy active work and being outside
  • Comfortable working toward goals and receiving regular feedback
  • Curious and willing to learn about complex campaigns
  • Can stay motivated after hearing "no"
  • Communicate clearly, warmly, and confidently
  • Enjoy meeting people and can build rapport quickly
  • Care about human rights, humanitarian aid, social justice, or community issues

Nice To Haves

  • Previous fundraising experience
  • Experience in hospitality, independent cafes or restaurants, customer service, retail, sales, theatre, public speaking, political organizing, volunteering, or community outreach
  • Students and recent graduates interested in Political science, International relations, Sociology, Communications, Public policy, Human rights, Social justice, Nonprofit or community-based work

  • Learn about your nonprofit partner and the campaign you'll be fundraising for
  • Start friendly, respectful conversations with members of the public
  • Explain complex human rights and humanitarian issues in a clear, engaging way
  • Connect campaign issues to the values and concerns of the person you're speaking with
  • Invite people to support the organization through recurring donations
  • Work alongside an energetic and supportive fundraising team
  • Practice your approach, receive regular coaching, and work toward clear fundraising goals
  • Help create a welcoming and respectful experience for everyone you meet
