About The Position

The Fully Connected Scholarship Program is a partnership between empirical and Garden City Community College designed to provide individuals with no prior manufacturing experience an opportunity to enter the manufacturing field. This program offers a combination of hands-on manufacturing experience and enrollment in a program leading to Certificate C credentials. Participants will work alongside experienced employees, contributing to the plant's operations and gaining valuable insights into manufacturing technology at empirical. This technical work-study program allows students to gain practical experience while earning a certificate in GCCC’s Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program. Scholarship recipients will have their tuition, fees, and books covered, in addition to receiving competitive pay for part-time work at an empirical manufacturing facility. The program emphasizes on-the-job training, skill development in areas like time management, teamwork, and problem-solving, and offers a flexible work schedule to accommodate classes. Upon successful completion, participants become eligible for full-time employment at empirical in a technical role with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
  • Acceptance to Garden City Community College
  • Sign a two-year employment agreement
  • Possess mechanical and or electrical interest/aptitude
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic
  • Willing and able to learn and be coached
  • Complete an application process with empirical and Garden City Community College
  • Maintain good standing in the GCCC Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Program
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Responsibilities

  • Work side by side with current employees and contribute to the success of the plant.
  • Gain hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Work a minimum of sixteen (16) hours per week at empirical during the program.
  • Complete the summer work program.
  • Work a partial schedule at an empirical site.
  • Coordinate all work around and supportive of class, lab, and study commitments.
