About The Position

DC Prep is seeking a Full-Time Substitute Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves delivering classroom instruction across six campuses, providing substitute coverage, and contributing positively to the classroom community. The substitute teacher will support instruction, communicate with families, reinforce classroom expectations, and actively participate in professional development. The position requires collaboration with lead teachers, seeking opportunities for classroom ownership, and maximizing impact through continuous learning and growth.

Requirements

  • Experience working with students in an urban public school with a record of high student achievement highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from a competitive college or university preferred.
  • Desire and willingness to do “whatever it takes” to support student achievement in traditionally under-served communities.
  • Passion for connecting with students and families in support of student success.
  • Extraordinary oral skills to effectively communicate with varied audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom instruction at one of DC Prep's six campus locations.
  • Provide substitute coverage for classrooms based on daily/weekly needs.
  • Contribute positively to the classroom community by supporting instruction.
  • Communicate with families and reinforce classroom expectations and vision.
  • Support instructional planning and delivery, including leading routines, structures, and transitions.
  • Review lesson plans and materials in advance to prepare for effective implementation.
  • Implement assigned small groups in literacy and math.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to implement structures that maximize student learning.
  • Support the delivery of assessments.
  • Assist in the collection and grading of classwork and homework.
  • Meet regularly with lead teachers to ensure classroom community vision and Tier I supports are in place.
  • Lead various components of the school day while carrying out the vision for classroom community.
  • Follow student academic and behavior plans with fidelity.
  • Meet regularly with lead teachers to agree upon and establish classroom norms and expectations.
  • Participate in weekly individual or group professional development and coaching sessions.
  • Perform clerical duties related to instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, and assessments.
  • Perform morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned.
  • Attend staff and student field trips, after-school events, family-teacher conferences, home visits, and other events involving parents and students, as needed.
