About The Position

The Ready By Grade (RBG3) Full-Time Literacy Specialist is responsible for providing targeted literacy instruction and support to students to ensure they are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement effective literacy strategies and interventions. The specialist will assess student progress, provide professional development to staff, and contribute to a school-wide culture of literacy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with an endorsement in Reading Specialist or Literacy.
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience, preferably in elementary grades.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of literacy development and research-based instructional strategies.
  • Experience with literacy assessment tools and data analysis.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Literacy Education or a related field.
  • Experience as a Reading Specialist or Literacy Coach.
  • Experience providing professional development to adult learners.
  • Knowledge of specific intervention programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Fundations).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct literacy instruction to students identified as needing additional support.
  • Develop and implement individualized literacy intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literacy strategies across the curriculum.
  • Assess student literacy skills and progress using a variety of diagnostic tools.
  • Analyze data to inform instruction and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide professional development and coaching to teachers on effective literacy practices.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for home support.
  • Participate in school-based teams to discuss student needs and develop support plans.
  • Stay current with research-based literacy practices and instructional methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide literacy initiatives.
