Full Stack Software Engineer, Lead

Booz Allen Hamilton•San Antonio, TX
•$112,900 - $257,000

About The Position

Performs architecture, implementation, problem solving, maintenance, and support for agile software development of modern, data-intensive systems. The role tackles complex technical problems, independently designs and implements software capabilities, contributes to architecture and engineering practices, and serves as a technical resource and mentor to other engineers. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on building software for the defense and aviation industries. The engineer designs and builds modern software to process, analyze, and visualize large volumes of data in near real time; works across the stack; contributes to architecture; and translates ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable products. The role has significant autonomy and requires identifying problems, determining practical solutions, and driving work to completion without extensive direction. The engineer designs, develops, tests, debugs, and maintains production software using technologies including TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, Next.js, REST APIs, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Docker, cloud platforms, and CI/CD tools. The role owns technical capabilities from design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support, while collaborating with engineers, product owners, and customers.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production software.
  • 5+ years of experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, and RESTful API design and implementation.
  • 5+ years of experience working with event-driven, near-real-time streaming, and distributed architectures.
  • 4+ years of experience using Docker and PostgreSQL.
  • 3+ years of experience with Next.js, Kafka, and cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or Jenkins and providing technical direction or serving as a technical lead on software development efforts.
  • Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, testing, debugging, and production operations.
  • Ability to independently solve complex technical problems, make practical decisions, and work effectively with minimal direction.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience with 2D or 3D rendering technologies.
  • 2+ years of experience with C# or Python.
  • Experience with Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS).
  • Experience developing software for aviation, flight training, or aerospace applications.
  • Experience with simulation platforms such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or Prepar3D.
  • Experience with defense, military, or mission-critical software.
  • Secret clearance.
