Full Stack Software Engineer, Monetization Platform
About The Position
The Monetization Platform team within Growth builds systems and experiences that help people access and pay for OpenAI products. The team works across product experience, platform architecture, and business strategy to develop capabilities for pricing, packaging, eligibility, entitlements, usage, and subscriptions. In partnership with Product, Design, Finance, Financial Engineering, and Data Science, the role helps shape a new platform and its technical direction. The engineer will help decide what to build, establish architecture, and deliver products across the customer experience and backend services. The work includes pricing and packaging capabilities, plan and usage experiences, shared user interfaces and tools for repeatable launches, and integrations with subscription and billing systems. The role carries substantial ownership over technical decisions and delivery while the roadmap is developing, and includes guiding other engineers through code and design reviews.
Requirements
- Experience setting architectural direction and delivering significant projects involving multiple teams while actively contributing to code.
- Depth in backend engineering or distributed systems, with the ability to work across APIs and interfaces.
- Ability to reason rigorously about data models, lifecycle transitions, consistency, concurrency, and failure or duplicate-operation scenarios.
- Experience taking loosely defined customer or business problems through discovery, implementation, and production operation.
- Product intuition combined with experimentation and analysis, and interest in whether customers understand and benefit from products.
- Ability to establish new capabilities, ship an initial useful design, and improve it as the problem becomes clearer.
- Ability to build alignment across disciplines, explain technical choices clearly, and help teammates take on more responsibility.

Responsibilities
- Define and build shared pricing and packaging capabilities, including plan configuration, eligibility, entitlement integrations, and usage allowances.
- Create plan and usage experiences across the stack, connecting interfaces to product APIs and backend services.
- Develop prototypes and experiments for commercial ideas with Product, Finance, and Data Science, and use findings to guide iterations.
- Design integrations with Financial Engineering that maintain correct access and subscription state through plan changes, migrations, asynchronous updates, and partial failures.
- Build reusable components and configuration tools that help teams launch offerings with less custom engineering and fewer dependencies.
- Own production quality through migration planning, staged rollouts, testing, monitoring, and recovery paths.
- Shape the technical roadmap and balance immediate launches with shared foundations.
- Develop other engineers through code and design reviews.
