About The Position

Vantor is seeking a Full Stack Geospatial Developer to design, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain web-based geospatial applications and services. The role combines full-stack software development with practical geospatial expertise to support an intuitive map-authoring application and the integration of geospatial data, databases, and services. The developer will work across front-end and back-end systems, translating complex geospatial data and workflows into reliable, user-friendly capabilities. The successful candidate will understand how geospatial data is structured, stored, visualized, analyzed, and exchanged, and will advise on formats, schemas, coordinate reference systems, metadata, and interfaces for a sustainable geospatial data library. The position requires U.S. citizenship, an active U.S. Government security clearance at the TS/SCI level with required polygraph, and full-time onsite work. Cleared employment is contingent upon verification of clearance status. Certain roles may also be subject to U.S. export control laws requiring U.S. person status. The base pay range is $200,000–$250,000. Starting pay depends on job-related factors, including experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Vantor offers a competitive total rewards package, including a 401(k) with company match, mental health resources, student loan repayment assistance, adoption reimbursement, and pet insurance. The application window is three days from the posting date and remains open until a qualified candidate is identified.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Appropriate security clearance; the position specifies an active U.S. Government TS/SCI clearance with required polygraph, and eligibility requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Experience developing and delivering full-stack web applications.
  • Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and a framework such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Experience with back-end development using Java, Python, Node.js, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Professional experience working with geospatial data, GIS, or spatial data services.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, or comparable technologies.
  • Familiarity with GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage, KML/KMZ, GeoTIFF, CSV, WMS, WFS, WMTS, or similar formats and services.
  • Understanding of coordinate reference systems, map projections, spatial reference identifiers, geometry types, topology, metadata, and data quality principles.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an Agile environment.
  • Willingness to work onsite full time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, QGIS, or comparable GIS platforms.
  • Experience designing thematic maps, choropleth maps, symbol maps, and interactive geospatial visualizations.
  • Experience migrating data from Oracle to PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  • Experience with OpenLayers, Leaflet, MapLibre, Mapbox GL JS, GDAL/OGR, GeoTools, or similar libraries.
  • Experience with containerization, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and enterprise deployment environments.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, usability, and performance considerations for web applications.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph, if required by the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain a web-based map creation application with functionality similar to Datawrapper’s mapping tools.
  • Build intuitive interfaces that allow users to create, configure, style, preview, save, and share interactive maps and geospatial visualizations.
  • Develop front-end components for loading data, selecting geographic fields, applying symbology, configuring labels and map elements, and producing publication-ready map products.
  • Develop back-end services, APIs, business logic, data-processing workflows, and persistence mechanisms supporting the application.
  • Integrate the application with geospatial data, databases, APIs, web services, and enterprise systems.
  • Work with vector, raster, and service-based geospatial data.
  • Advise on appropriate data formats, schemas, projection definitions, metadata standards, and interfaces for the organization’s geospatial data library.
  • Support data ingestion, transformation, validation, quality control, and quality assessment activities.
  • Work with spatial databases, including Oracle and PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  • Ensure geometry, topology, attribution, coordinate reference systems, and metadata are preserved and validated.
  • Implement and consume REST APIs, OGC services, and other Government or enterprise data services.
  • Write unit, integration, system, and user acceptance tests; troubleshoot defects and performance issues.
  • Produce technical documentation covering application architecture, APIs, data models, workflows, configuration, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, demonstrations, and Agile development activities.
  • Apply secure software development practices.
