About The Position
Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Software Engineer to help build Agentic Identity Solutions on a high-paced AI security team working in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) space. The role involves leading technology projects and developers to build distributed microservices and full-stack systems that meet regulatory needs and deliver cloud-based products for customers. The engineer will provide technical leadership across Agile teams, collaborate with product managers and architects, establish engineering standards, and contribute to the company’s technology strategy in a “you build it, you own it” environment. The role uses programming languages including Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript; open-source relational and NoSQL databases; Docker and Kubernetes; and AWS tools and services. The engineer will also evaluate emerging tools and practices, improve system performance, reduce technical debt, and support the engineering community through learning and mentoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not count.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4+ years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- Experience using modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
- At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems to address regulatory needs.
- Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions for customers.
- Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and cloud tools and services to build solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify areas for improvement, implement targeted refactoring, reduce technical debt, and enhance system performance.
- Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment.
