Full Stack Engineer

Willis Re•New York, NY
•$180,000 - $220,000

About The Position

Willis Re is building a global technology estate from the ground up, designed around data, analytics, and modern cloud platforms. The Full Stack Engineer will build products that power reinsurance broking, analytics, and client-facing platforms. This is a hands-on role spanning conventional services and AI-enabled features, working with architects, product stakeholders, and delivery partners to ship software used by brokers and analysts. The engineer will develop and operate cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure, build end-to-end features across APIs, services, and responsive accessible interfaces, and create data-driven and AI-enabled product features. The role also involves integrating with external market platforms, carrier and client systems, and vendor SaaS products; applying secure engineering and test-driven development practices; and contributing to architectural standards, design discussions, code reviews, and mentoring across a greenfield technology estate.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • A track record of shipping and supporting production systems end to end.
  • Strong programming skills in C#/.NET or Python.
  • Solid API design skills and strong SQL skills.
  • Practical experience building modern user interfaces with React or Angular and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on Azure experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions and infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform.
  • Experience building to architectural standards and applying microservices, event-driven, and API-led design patterns.
  • Strong grounding in security patterns including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, Entra ID, and RBAC, as well as secure coding practices.
  • Comfort working with relational databases and data-heavy application features, with strong SQL and attention to query performance.
  • Fluency in test-driven development and automated testing, maintainable design, and sound judgement about when to keep solutions simple.
  • Ability to work closely with product stakeholders and delivery partners and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance, or wider financial services.
  • Experience building with LLMs and AI-enabled solutions, or a clear appetite to learn.
  • Familiarity with agentic patterns, prompt design, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship end-to-end features, from APIs and services to responsive, accessible user interfaces.
  • Develop and run cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure using PaaS services, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Consume data through APIs and services and present it in usable, performant ways for brokers and analysts.
  • Build AI-enabled product features using approaches such as retrieval-augmented generation, tool and API integration, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop design.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code or Claude Cowork in daily work and help the wider team adopt them effectively.
  • Integrate with external market platforms, carrier and client systems, and vendor SaaS products using API-first and event-driven patterns.
  • Practise test-driven development and write secure, maintainable code, applying authentication, authorisation, data protection, and privacy patterns.
  • Build to agreed architectural standards and help shape them through design discussions.
  • Review code from in-house and partner engineers and mentor others across the greenfield estate.
  • Work closely with product stakeholders and delivery partners and explain technical trade-offs clearly.
