Full-stack Engineer 4 (Python, AWS)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Software Engineer passionate about open-source frameworks and emerging technologies to help drive a major technology transformation. The role leads a portfolio of technology projects and provides technical leadership across Agile teams, building distributed microservices and full-stack systems that support regulatory needs and deliver cloud-based customer experiences. The engineer collaborates with digital product managers and architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks. The role includes setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence; mentoring engineers; improving system performance; reducing technical debt; and influencing technology strategy through evaluation of emerging tools and practices. The position follows a “you build it, you own it” approach and is designated hybrid, with on-site presence required in accordance with Capital One’s hybrid policy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of coding experience with more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, and Scala.
- 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4+ years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- Experience using modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and supporting professional development within technical teams.
- At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Share knowledge of technology trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
- Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and AWS tools and services to build solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify areas for improvement, implement targeted refactoring, and help reduce technical debt and improve system performance.
- Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment.
