Full-Stack Engineer 4 (Python, Kubernetes)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a Full-Stack Engineer 4 (Manager, IC) for its Machine Learning Experience Team (MLX Tech), which builds platforms for the rapid and responsible development and deployment of AI/ML solutions at scale. The role contributes to a major transformation across Capital One, helping the company responsibly implement AI/ML and use Generative AI to assist customers. The engineer will lead technology projects and developers working on distributed microservices and full-stack systems, delivering cloud-based solutions that meet regulatory needs and support customer experiences. The position provides technical leadership across Agile teams, partners with architects and product managers, and contributes to technology strategy in a “you build it, you own it” environment. Work includes using Python and Go, databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services; establishing engineering standards; improving system performance; and reducing technical debt.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5 or more years of experience coding with Python or Go.
- 4 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- 3 or more years of experience with Kubernetes.
- 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 1 or more years of experience leveraging observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues within cloud environments.
- 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 1 or more years of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
- Experience leveraging modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity using capabilities beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs.
- Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor members of the engineering community.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that support customer experiences.
- Use programming languages such as Python and Go, open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for improvement, implement targeted refactoring, and help reduce technical debt and improve system performance.
- Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment.
