About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer to serve as the Edifecs Platform Manager for a Veterans Affairs (VA) program. This remote, full-time, W-2 position leads the Edifecs application support organization and is responsible for operational stability, scalability, compliance, and strategic alignment. The role provides technical oversight, manages staffing, and drives roadmap execution while working with product, architecture, vendor, business, EDI, DevSecOps, and cloud teams. The position calls for hands-on oversight of the Edifecs platform, including XEServer, XEngine, Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs), SpecBuilder, and related components. The developer guides architecture and modernization decisions, cloud scalability and performance strategies, and the development and deployment of EDI processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows. The role also addresses mapping, validation, functional, and performance issues; manages logging, JVM tuning, and certificates and keystores; and supports releases, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades. The position requires strong Edifecs, EDI, and AWS expertise, including integration and interface management, troubleshooting, performance optimization, infrastructure as code, compliance, and stakeholder communication. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). Candidates residing in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. Requirements

At least 10 years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations, software or data engineering, with strong AWS experience.
Strong knowledge of Edifecs architecture and transaction lifecycles.
Strong experience in AWS cloud environments.
Hands-on understanding of Edifecs XEServer, including orchestrations, batch flows, and execution contexts.
Hands-on understanding of XEngine, including validation, rulesets, and canonical structures.
Hands-on understanding of TPM, including trading partner configuration, routes, and agreements.
Hands-on understanding of EDI Gateway visibility, audit, search, and reprocessing.
Hands-on understanding of SpecBuilder, including Implementation Guide definitions and map development.
Experience managing technical aspects of inbound and outbound EDI connectivity using AS2, SFTP, FTPS, and HTTPS channels.
Experience with API-based integrations and gateway services.
Experience troubleshooting EDI and conducting root-cause analysis of transaction failures, mapping or misalignment defects, partner rejection patterns, batch flow failures, and performance degradation.
Experience optimizing job throughput, tuning engine and JVM performance, managing memory, supporting high availability and failover, and using monitoring dashboards.
Understanding of AWS EC2 instance sizing, OS tuning, storage I/O patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network path debugging, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows.
Knowledge of compliance, audit, and partner governance.
Experience with infrastructure as code using Ansible and Terraform.
Ability to communicate technical architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
Comfort driving ambiguous architecture decisions to resolution with limited direction.
Experience with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, and JIRA.
Strong documentation habits, including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and migration runbooks.
Ability to collaborate with development, operations, and security teams.
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI).

Nice To Haves

EDIFECS certification.
Deep hands-on Edifecs experience with X.12 EDI transaction standards, including medical claims transactions such as 837, 834, and 277, as well as 270/271 and 278 transactions.
Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements in cloud data architecture.
Experience with healthcare payer or PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations.
AWS certification.
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Responsibilities

Guide EDI Analysts in building, deploying, and optimizing Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows.
Analyze and resolve mapping issues, validation failures, functional errors, and performance bottlenecks.
Manage system logging, JVM tuning, and certificate and keystore configurations.
Support release deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades.
Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, and business teams.
Troubleshoot EDI transaction failures, mapping defects, partner-specific rejection patterns, batch job flow failures, and throughput or performance degradation.
Optimize job throughput and engine performance; support high availability, failover orchestration, and proactive monitoring.
Communicate technical architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
Gather and translate business reporting requirements into technical data models.
Document architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and migration runbooks.
Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to support seamless production operations.
