About The Position

Join Deloitte’s AI & Engineering team to transform technology platforms, drive innovation, and help clients improve financial performance, accelerate digital ventures, and grow through innovation. As a Core Software Engineer III on the Engineering as a Service team, you will build and integrate agent-platform capabilities, implement durable and tenant-isolated services, connect agents to an event-driven orchestrator, and contribute to architecture linting and CI. The role is part of Deloitte’s Government & Public Services practice, which serves federal, state, and local government clients and public higher education institutions. The Engineering as a Service offering provides end-to-end design, implementation, and technology operations, with engineering-led Advise, Implement, and Operate capabilities.

The position requires 3–6 years of backend Python experience, including async and service design expertise and practical LLM-application experience, as well as 3–6 years of experience with Docker, SQL, Tailwind CSS 4, and React.js. A bachelor’s degree is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future and must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. The estimated salary range is $86,700–$170,900. Eligible employees may also participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to its governing rules and applicable performance factors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Build agents using a layered SDK contract, including shared types and tools, composable tools, a thin agent shell, and a FastAPI and React interface.
• Keep business logic in composable skills rather than agent shells or routers.
• Integrate LLMs through a multi-provider abstraction, with a single sanitization and audit boundary so raw client data does not leave the worker.
• Implement durable service boundaries, including asynchronous persistence, object-storage artifacts, and a tamper-evident hash-chain audit trail for each run.
• Enforce tenant isolation through Postgres RLS scoped sessions and author Alembic migrations, including enum and DDL idempotency and RLS policies.
• Connect agents to an event-driven orchestrator with human-in-the-loop approval gates, and expose progress through asynchronous tasks using Celery/Redis and WebSocket.
• Deploy behind mechanical architecture linting and CI, and contribute new invariant checks.
• Work independently and collaboratively, manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and provide guidance to others.
