About The Position

Columbia Manufacturing LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Full Layout Inspector to perform dimensional inspections on complex aerospace components and assemblies. This position is critical to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings and industry standards through comprehensive inspection techniques. This role is responsible for maintaining product quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training and/or certification in metrology or inspection required.
  • 3+ years of experience performing full layout inspection in an aerospace manufacturing or precision machining environment.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated knowledge of GD&T, AS9102 FAI standards, reading and interpreting complex blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience with manual and digital inspection tools.
  • Effective customer focused communication skills and teamwork mentality.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office and quality databases.

Nice To Haves

  • CMM programming experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Visual ERP is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full layout inspections on complex machined parts and assemblies in accordance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable quality standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to verify dimensional compliance.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 requirements, as well as in-process and final inspections.
  • Operate precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, optical comparators, surface plates, and other inspection instruments.
  • Program, set up, and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to perform dimensional inspections and generate inspection reports.
  • Document inspection results accurately using inspection reports, AS9102 documentation, quality records, and electronic quality management systems.
  • Identify, document, and report nonconforming material in accordance with company quality procedures.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to dimensional or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and customers to resolve inspection concerns and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Verify that inspection and measuring equipment is properly calibrated and maintained prior to use.
  • Maintain organized inspection records in accordance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, and AS9100 requirements.
