About The Position

Pico Propane and Fuels in Carlsbad, New Mexico, is seeking a full-time Fuel Transport Driver. The driver loads, transports, delivers, and unloads refined fuels such as gasoline and diesel from refineries and supply terminals to bulk plants, retail locations, and commercial customers using a tractor and tanker trailer. The position also assists with hauling equipment on a flatbed trailer. It requires a Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements and compliance with applicable transportation and safety regulations. The work is normally performed outdoors, where exposure to extreme heat or cold, fumes, airborne particles, and gases is common. Evening hours and weekends may be required as needed. The role involves frequent vehicle climbing and physical activity, including handling weights of 10 to 80 pounds for approximately 90% of the work shift. Employment is subject to pre-hire DOT medical certification, drug and/or alcohol testing, a physical abilities test, pre-employment screening, and a background check.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements.
Meet all DOT requirements.
At least 3 years of tractor and trailer experience in the fuel distribution business.
At least 1 year of tanker experience within the last 5 years.
No more than 1 moving violation in the previous 2 years.
Ability to use navigation tools such as GPS, smartphone apps, web-based maps, and physical maps.
Ability to maintain accurate logs and records.
Ability to carry out instructions with limited supervision.
Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Ability to obtain the New Mexico LP-3 propane certification.
Ability to obtain the New Mexico Class 1 transport delivery certification.
Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, or move) weights of 10 to 80 pounds for approximately 90% of the work shift.
Ability to regularly climb in and out of a commercial motor vehicle multiple times per work shift.
Good hand-eye coordination and arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and visual acuity to operate equipment, including at night.
Ability to sit frequently and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to speak and hear.
Meet pre-hire DOT medical certification requirements and pass drug and/or alcohol testing, a company-provider physical abilities test, pre-employment screening, and a background check.

Responsibilities

Comply with city, state, and federal regulations.
Load, secure, transport, deliver, and unload refined fuel products.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on equipment used to transport hazardous materials.
Apply knowledge of industry standards and government regulations for transporting bulk petroleum products to final delivery points.
Plan and complete varied operational assignments of moderate to complex difficulty.
Gauge tank volumes and identify product types before and during delivery to prevent cross-contamination or misdelivery.
Transport bulk petroleum products from refinery and supply terminals to final delivery points using a Class 8 tractor and tanker trailer.
Monitor truck maintenance needs, perform minor repairs, and conduct daily DOT truck inspections to support vehicle safety and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate records, including truck inspections, hours of service, bills of lading, products transported, and miles driven.
Ensure the delivery vehicle is serviced according to its maintenance schedule and report larger service needs and mechanical issues to a supervisor.
Assist with hauling equipment on a flatbed trailer.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
