Fuel Commodity Specialist
About The Position
This role is recognized as a technical expert and will be responsible for contributing to the Fuel management team by performing complex assignments. Responsibilities include procurement of fuel commodities such as natural gas, coal, oil, biomass and other products (“fuel commodities”) managed by the team. Will interact closely with business development on new development opportunities. Using specialized knowledge, ensure uninterrupted flow of commodities through various transportation modes and regions on the most economic paths. Originate, negotiate and close large value, complicated contracts coordinating closely with Dominion’s strategic plans. This role will optimize of fuel commodity transportation and storage assets in order to support Dominion’s goal of maintaining reliable operations at the lowest price attainable.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience with fuel commodities. Note: A Master's degree will count as one year of experience. A partial year of six months or more of experience will be rounded up to one year.
- Expert knowledge of physical commodity fundamentals.
- Expert knowledge of the natural gas market and understanding and knowledge of gas products that are to be scheduled (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of the pipeline transmission and electricity (including ISO’s and RTO’s) grids as they pertain to fuel commodities.
- Expert knowledge of capacity release, commodity storage, and fuel commodity transportation.
- Results oriented, excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate complex technical information including testifying in regulatory settings.
- Strong competency to deal with large amounts of information and implementing innovative solutions.
- Possess strong leadership to work in diverse, cross-functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact inside and outside of the company.
- Highly effective in the identification and communication of market changes to co-workers, and the development of commodity demand forecasts to meet system requirements.
- Highly proficient in physical procurement, analytics, and the utilization of forecasting tools.
- Experience in using financial derivatives products and hedging techniques.
- Experience with regulatory proceedings, contract negotiations, and business development.
- In-depth knowledge of rules and regulations associated with organized commodity markets (e.g PJM, Gas & oil Pipeline Tariffs, OTC markets, Commodity Exchanges like ICE, etc)

Responsibilities
- Execute the purchase/sale of the fuel commodities; purchase and sell capacity in the capacity release market and execute fuel commodity capacity contracts; provide guidance on the effective utilizations of pipeline and storage/inventory positions.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key internal customers (i.e. electricity trading and gas control centers), suppliers and transportation providers (pipelines, railroads, terminal operators while developing a portfolio of contracts/assets.
- Identify demand and surpluses of the commodities and storage required.
- Monitor the variables that can influence pricing, quantities, availability and the reliability of fuel sources and advise customers and leadership on these trends.
- Project the future demand for Dominion’s fuel commodity requirements and execute strategies to determine daily, weekly, monthly and yearly system requirements based upon information received from affiliates.
- Manage and provide timely, accurate, volumetric and economic information for analysis and decision making.
