Responsibilities

  • Sampling of raw ingredients, Work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods for testing. This is accomplished when the incumbent obtains the receiving documents and checks them against the specification. They organize and prepare sampling materials, verify lot numbers and label information against standard documents and then locate the materials to be sampled and work with the warehouse to bring those materials to the sampling room. Utilizing aseptic sampling techniques, the incumbents collect required samples, adequately seal and mark sampled materials and sample containers and then transport, sort, and distribute samples for testing.
  • Compositing samples and sample preparation for testing. The QC Tech I shall accurately identify samples to be composited for further testing. They will then verify lot numbers, prepare necessary materials, and utilizing aseptic sampling technique to do the compositing, take an equal small amount from each individual sample bag and combine it in another bag. Finally they will distribute composited samples for appropriate testing.
  • Laboratory Testing and tasks associated with laboratory work. The testing that the QC Tech I will do is the testing listed below (not all inclusive). This is accomplished by following the written step by step method or procedure for each test. Other associated tasks would include being able to read and understand the packaging production detail report (PPDR) and the production schedule. Calibration and verification of equipment– using test weights or other standards, for checking the scales or other equipment to assure that they are within the tolerated accuracy at the appropriate frequency is another important task. Accurately recording test results and pertinent comments about the testing on both hand written documents/lab books as well as electronical lab sheets is also part of this job. Placing materials on hold and taking them off hold in the AS400 system is another expectation. Equipment inspection and testing to assure that it is clean through visual examination, microbiological or allergen swabbing or sponging the equipment and performing the allergen test with supervision or assistance is also done. Taking the microbiological samples to the appropriate lab for testing is a follow up to this task. Lastly, autoclave operation is another task for this job.
  • On-line packaging inspection. The incumbent shall understand the operation, verification, and use of foreign material detection and fill monitoring equipment as well as to follow the pick sheet and Packaging Production Detail Report (PPDR) to perform hourly line checks. The line checks require that the QC Tech I fill out required documentation accurately and at the correct frequency and obtain appropriate retain samples of product. Some QC Tech I positions may be required to utilize the Quality Control Operation Control electronic recordkeeping system (QCOC).
