Frontend Engineer

BobyardSan Francisco, CA
$130,000 - $160,000Onsite

About The Position

Bobyard builds AI systems that automate takeoffs for contractors, saving them dozens of hours per project in a multi-trillion industry still running on spreadsheets and guesswork. Contractors live in our product all day — the interface has to be fast, precise, and obvious. We're Series A, backed by 8VC, Primary, and Pear, and growing fast. You'll work on the hardest UI problem we have: rendering large construction drawings and dense estimate tables without friction. Think canvas rendering, pan/zoom performance, and tables with hundreds of rows that still feel instant. You don't need prior experience with canvas or data-dense interfaces — you need strong React/TypeScript fundamentals, real product taste, and to be a fast learner ready to go deep on a problem most junior roles never touch. You don't need to check every box below — if the hard problem excites you, apply.

Requirements

  • Strong React and modern CSS skills — you can build complex layouts and interactions without reaching for a library every time
  • Real design sense — you notice when spacing, hierarchy, or motion is off, and you fix it without being asked
  • Comfortable working from rough product direction — can fill the gap between a mock and a shippable feature
  • Fluent in TypeScript, component architecture, and frontend state management
  • High ownership mindset — you don't wait to be told what to fix
  • Fast learner who can navigate unfamiliar systems and tools quickly
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data-dense or canvas-heavy interfaces (tables, editors, drawing tools)
  • Personal projects or open-source work involving performance-sensitive UI
  • Exposure to construction, real estate, or other "boring industry, real problem" domains

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship core product UI in React and TypeScript
  • Turn rough product direction and designs into polished, production-ready interfaces
  • Work on frontend performance — fast loads, smooth interactions, responsive rendering of large drawings and data-dense tables
  • Contribute to a reusable component library the team ships on
  • Work directly with product and design to shape features, not just implement them
  • Prototype quickly, gather feedback, and iterate toward the right UX
  • Diagnose and fix frontend bugs, rendering issues, and state management problems

Benefits

  • $130,000–$160,000 base salary, based on experience
  • 0.02%–0.04% equity (4-year vest)
  • Full-time, in-person role in the SF Bay Area
  • A genuinely hard, high-ownership problem from day one
