Frontend Developer

AmbyintCalgary, AB
Hybrid

About The Position

As a Frontend Developer at Ambyint, you will report to the Head of Technology Operations and play a key role in designing and building scalable, cloud-native solutions that solve complex challenges in the oil and gas industry. You’ll work with modern technologies, mentor junior developers, and push the boundaries of what’s possible with cloud, AI, and IoT. We’re especially looking for someone who cares deeply about fostering a strong team culture, supporting team members, and driving meaningful impact for our customers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience delivering software features from concept through production support.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including experience building and maintaining large-scale applications.
  • Extensive experience with React and NextJS, including modern patterns such as functional components, hooks, performance optimization, server-side rendering, and hydration.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming and front-end data fetching strategies.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end tooling and ecosystems (e.g., React Query/TanStack, design-token-based styling, modern build tools such as Vite).
  • Ability to translate Figma designs into clean, maintainable UI code.
  • Strong understanding of user experience principles and interactive UI patterns (state changes, notifications, modals, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of the design principles behind building scalable front-end applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in monorepo environments (e.g., Turbo, Nx, pnpm workspaces) is an asset.
  • The gratification of a job well done comes from the satisfaction of your ‘customers’.
  • It’s in your nature to be efficient and do it really well, while you always deliver on what you promise.
  • Your strengths come from collaborating with others.
  • Continuous learning and improvement are part of your mantra.
  • You appreciate feedback and see it as a chance to grow, not a critique.
  • You are curious, creative, biased for action, and love solving problems.
  • You care about the customer experience and take satisfaction in building user-friendly solutions.
  • You don’t assume that you are the best and have the humility to learn from others.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain front-end components of our cloud-native platform, delivering responsive and high-quality user experiences.
  • Collaborate with senior developers and cross-functional teams (Data Science, Product, DevOps) to translate design concepts into scalable, user-friendly features.
  • Optimize front-end code for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Build applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React and NextJS.
  • Translate Figma designs into production-ready UI components and interactions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and front-end best practices to support knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in Agile development processes including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Prototype and experiment with new front-end technologies, iterating quickly based on feedback.
  • Collaborate with empathy and uphold Ambyint’s values while contributing to a positive team culture.

Benefits

  • The opportunity to make a difference in a cutting-edge technology company that is highly spirited and focused on being a leading contributor in the energy transition space.
  • We offer an environment steeped in creating a rewarding professional experience and having some fun along the way.
  • We work in a hybrid working environment with a diverse and talented team.
  • We have a passion for taking on big challenges to create a wealth of opportunities and we will support your development and career goals.
  • Additionally, we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package.
