About The Position

Waste Pro is hiring an energetic CDL driver with front-load experience to operate refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes. The driver services commercial businesses by collecting front-load containers, transporting waste to a designated local landfill or disposal area, and providing courteous, prompt service to customers. Work is performed under supervision, with performance reviewed during and after routes through direct observation and discussion of problems. The role includes inspecting and cleaning the truck, completing route and vehicle paperwork, assessing materials for safe collection, and helping maintain safe operations for coworkers and the public. Drivers may receive a $10,000 driver award every three years when specific criteria are met.

Requirements

Valid Class A or Class B CDL for the state where the position works.
Safe driving record.
At least 21 years of age.
Front-load experience.
Understanding of refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices.
Understanding of Department of Transportation and state requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
Ability to drive refuse trucks, including front-end, side, rear-end, or roll-off loading trucks and equipment with a right-hand driver's position, while following legal and defensive driving practices.
Ability to manipulate heavy equipment control levers and follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and maintain written records and service responses.
Ability to speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, coworkers, dispatch, and supervisors; understand highway and traffic signals; and make legible paperwork entries.
Ability to hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction.
Ability to see in the normal visual range, with or without correction.
Ability to exhibit a normal range of body motion.
Ability to push or pull 50 pounds independently 120 to 150 times a day.
Ability to lift 50 pounds independently from ground to waist height 120 to 150 times a day.
Ability to get into and out of a commercial motor vehicle cab 120 to 150 times a day.
Ability to bend at the waist and knees 120 to 150 times a day.
Ability to work 8 to 12 hours in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Responsibilities

Operate a refuse collection truck on assigned and special routes to collect garbage.
Service commercial businesses by emptying front-load containers using truck controls and forks.
Open corral doors as needed and roll 3- to 4-yard containers weighing up to 600 pounds into position for dumping when required.
Pick up loose trash and clean spills.
Transport waste to a designated local landfill or disposal area.
Complete route and productivity sheets, record mileage and fuel consumption, maintain a log book when required, complete Vehicle Condition Reports, and submit other required forms.
Communicate professionally with customers and report customer issues or complaints to appropriate internal contacts.
Provide courteous and expeditious customer service and support company and municipal goals.
Operate the truck safely, including conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, assessing collection materials for hazards, deciding what can be safely transported, and helping ensure the safety of employees encountered.
Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill run.
Keep the truck clean and wash its exterior weekly.
Inspect the truck, including under the hood and undercarriage; fuel it; check fluid levels and tire pressure.
Attend and participate in assigned company-sponsored training.
Keep up to date on job-appropriate technology used by Waste Pro.
Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
