Front-End Software Engineer II

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA

About The Position

Relativity Space is building rockets, including the Terran R launch vehicle, and the Terrestrial Software team is developing software foundations for an automated rocket factory and integrated launch platform. The team works with design, materials, manufacturing, test, and launch groups to build enterprise applications, industrial automation, data analytics infrastructure, and AI capabilities. Its long-term goal is a modular, scalable software platform for autonomous operations on Earth and beyond. The Front-End Software Engineer II will contribute to the operator UI frontend platform, including its application shell, design system, and shared data layer. The engineer will implement frontend modules within the established architecture, help migrate features and components into a unified operator platform, and build performant interfaces for live hardware telemetry. The role includes learning from senior engineers, participating in code reviews, and applying frontend best practices.

Requirements

  • Typically 2 or more years of experience building production web applications.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript and React.
  • Experience contributing to shared frontend codebases, component libraries, or design systems used by multiple teams.
  • Foundational frontend performance skills, including using profiling tools, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing basic optimizations.
  • Experience with state management patterns and real-time data updates in React applications, such as Redux, Context API, or WebSocket integrations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers, receive technical mentorship, and contribute to architectural discussions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time data visualization or charting, industrial control, SCADA, or hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Familiarity with binary streaming protocols such as WebSockets or protobuf, and offloading work to Web Workers.
  • Experience with a monorepo build system such as Bazel or embedding code editors such as Monaco.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the frontend platform for the operator UI, including the application shell, design system, and shared data layer.
  • Implement frontend modules using established architecture and contribution patterns so they integrate into the unified application.
  • Support consolidation by migrating features and components from separate frontends into the unified operator platform.
  • Build UI components that efficiently render live hardware telemetry while meeting performance requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, learn from senior engineers, and apply best practices to improve code quality and frontend skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Generous PTO and sick leave policy.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
