About The Position

Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role includes greeting and assisting customers, processing transactions accurately and efficiently, following company policies for payments and checkout procedures, and helping customers feel welcome and appreciated. The clerk also follows food safety and safety requirements, reports pricing discrepancies and unsafe conditions, and inspects equipment for maintenance needs. The position requires cooperation in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, appropriate conflict management, honesty in handling customer and business information, and support for minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. The essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Customer service experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Responsibilities

Greet, engage, and assist customers.
Process customer transactions through the checkout lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
Understand and use the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures according to company policy.
Follow company limits on cash shortages and overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.
Follow guidelines for restricted-sale items, including alcohol, tobacco, and DVDs.
Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
Follow established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons, where applicable.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager when items need repair.
Answer customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
Adhere to local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
