About The Position

The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. This role involves operating a cash register, assisting guests, maintaining the checkout area, and contributing to a positive shopping environment.

Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 21.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and committed to providing extraordinary service.

  • Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit.
  • In some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit is required.
  • Regularly requires standing, walking, and bending.
  • Use of arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift.
  • Climbing and balance.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools.
  • Ability to push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical attendance based on a schedule made by management which may vary week to week based on the needs of the business.

Nice To Haves

  • Cashiering experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or a general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • TABC certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Know and actively demonstrate the Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate charges.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction.
  • Check acceptable identification to ensure legal sales, using best practices and professionalism.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise, using bags and boxes appropriately.
  • Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on a daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at the end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally.
