About The Position

The Front Door Community Technician at the Jack Ryan Residence plays a crucial role in managing building access, ensuring client identification, monitoring security systems, and providing essential support during emergencies. This position involves interacting with individuals seeking services, directing them to appropriate resources, and de-escalating tense situations. The technician also serves as the main point of contact for emergency responders. The Jack Ryan Residence is a 200-bed shelter for homeless men living with mental illness, funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services. The program offers comprehensive mental health stabilization, medication management, case management, and medical services, with the goal of transitioning residents into permanent housing within nine months.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Basic Computer literacy required
  • Good oral and written communications skills needed
  • Security guard license required
  • Willingness and ability to pass tests to acquire CPR and Fire Safety Credentials required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with MICA/homeless population preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • NYC Fire Safety Coordinator Certification and CPR Certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and controlling access to the building's entrance
  • Creating client identification cards
  • Monitoring site activity through the use of the digital camera system
  • Providing emergency response and crisis intervention as necessary
  • Meeting and greeting all individuals entering the premises
  • Determining the program or services each individual needs to access at the site
  • Directing each individual to the appropriate location
  • Assisting clients in accessing necessary services
  • De-escalating situations in which individuals exhibit frustration or anger
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for emergency responders, such as the fire department and EMS
