About The Position

The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing with supportive services to enhance the independence and dignity of its residents. WSFSSH serves low-income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness. The Front Desk Receptionist, under the supervision of the Property Manager, is responsible for providing a range of services and supervision to residents to ensure their safety and independence. This role also focuses on maintaining an environment of respect and compassion for residents, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
  • Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment.
  • Able to perform job responsibilities.
  • Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13).
  • Experience working with dependent persons.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the well-being of residents.
  • Monitor residents entering and leaving the building, responding to potentially dangerous behaviors.
  • Respond to emergency calls from resident rooms, relaying requests and implementing emergency procedures.
  • Monitor the use of the recreation area.
  • Assist residents in obtaining needed services, including building management and social services.
  • Record and refer requests for building repairs or services to appropriate staff.
  • Monitor all persons entering or leaving the building, maintaining a sign-in/out log for guests, vendors, and aides.
  • Exercise authority to refuse entry to the building based on guidelines and instructions.
  • Monitor alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Notify super and/or manager of emergency situations according to building protocol.
  • Communicate emergency information clearly to authorities, tenants, and other staff, and call 911 as needed.
  • Perform building safety rounds as directed.
  • Answer the facility telephone courteously and professionally, announcing calls, referring to voicemail, and taking messages.
  • Maintain a daily log of activities, occurrences, and observations.
  • Write clear and accurate reports of incidents and actions taken.
  • Ensure the front sidewalk is clear of ice, snow, obstructions, and garbage.
  • Work as a team member to maintain a high level of care and respect for residents.
  • Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff in accordance with WSFSSH Confidentiality Policy.
  • Attend training sessions and conferences as required.
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Submit all required reports completely and on time.
  • Work cooperatively and collegially with other staff members.
  • Assist with other duties as directed.
