About The Position

Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems (SVCHS) is seeking a professional, dependable, and patient-focused Front Desk Receptionist to join our healthcare team. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a medical office, healthcare setting, customer service, reception, or administrative support preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records, patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, or payment collection preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn healthcare information systems.
  • Ability to accurately handle cash, payment transactions, daily reconciliation, and deposits.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus but are not required.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, respond to general questions, and direct calls to the appropriate clinical or administrative staff.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments while helping maintain efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Register new patients and verify or update demographic, contact, insurance, and third-party payment information at each visit.
  • Scan and accurately file documents in the appropriate patient electronic health record.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Explain the Sliding Fee Discount Program to patients and make approved account adjustments according to established procedures.
  • Collect copayments and other patient payments, issue receipts, and notify patients of outstanding balances.
  • Refer patients to the billing department when additional assistance is required.
  • Process telephone refill requests and route them to the appropriate clinical staff.
  • Prepare and mail new-patient welcome packets and no-show letters in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail and faxes and assist with sending outgoing documents.
  • Reconcile daily payment reports, prepare deposits, and maintain accurate transaction records.
  • Transport bank deposits and outgoing mail when assigned in the absence of the site manager.
  • Provide patients with receipts, visit summaries, follow-up appointment information, and provider-authorized work or school excuses.
  • Assist patients with medical records release forms and other required documentation.
  • Support the medical team with clerical and administrative duties necessary to prepare patients for visits and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the site manager, senior management, or CEO/Executive Director in support of clinic operations and the delivery of primary healthcare services.
