In this position, an Exterior Systems D&R (Design & Release) Engineer is responsible to design, develop, validate and release parts (Front and rear bumpers/fascias, grilles, GOR , AGS, AAD battery trays, wheel arch liners and underbody shields) under their responsibility for assigned program(s). The D&R engineer will lead early development and system feasibility with studio and program management team(s). The D&R engineer is responsible for continuous design efficiency which includes but is not limited to design improvements to quality, cost, and weight. The D&R engineer is responsible to design parts in compliance with Corporate, Local, and Global Regulatory Requirements, considering WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES (Engineering Specifications), SDS (Systems Design specifications). The D&R engineer is responsible to design parts that meet Manufacturing and Assembly requirements and oversee incorporation at the Assembly Plant(s).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or equivalent experience in a related field or Other Qualifications
  • 3+ year of experience in development of automotive body exterior systems in an engineering role.
  • Experience with studio interface of Class “A” Parts.
  • CAD experience with TCE / CATIA / 3DX. Parametric modeling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of craftsmanship expectations, and benchmarking.
  • Knowledge of Exterior Systems and packaging requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead team to resolve complex packaging issues.
  • English proficiency; fluid speaker with ability to negotiate and lead small team
  • Technical communication skills (Presentations & Negotiations)
  • Meeting/time management (Recurrence, Agenda, expected outcomes, time management, minutes)
  • Microsoft Office Tools proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point)
  • Knowledge of exterior systems commodity manufacturing processes

Responsibilities

  • Travel to part manufacturing sites and vehicle manufacturing sites (domestic and international)
  • Travel for extended periods of time to support launch at Ford Assembly Plant(s) (domestic and international)
  • Ensure D&R work is in compliance with Program cost, weight, quality, performance and timing targets (Waterfall process)
  • Understand GPDS (Global Product Development System) and create plans to deliver on time
  • Ensure D&R work is in compliance with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance Tools)
  • Development of ESOW (Engineering Statement of Work) , EC (Engineering concepts) and participate in the Sourcing Process (SOBA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA)
  • Actively participate in Technical Design Reviews
  • Release parts in BOM tool(s) and WERS through the product life cycle. Support Change Control Process.
  • Audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for prototype builds and maintain it post Job 1.
  • Be aware of Worldwide Engineering changes and proceed accordingly
  • Identify validation, durability and functional test required as per SDS & ES. (DVP / FEDE Workbench)
  • Leverage AIMS root cause analysis and permanent actions implementation.
  • Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at part level.
  • Participate in parts implementation/sign-off at assembly plant & assistance with quality issues.
  • Oversee PDL revisions and proceed accordingly if affected
  • Support VQR's, VRT's and PVT, as required.
  • Collaborate with STA with technical assistance through the Supplier Engagement Process
  • Deliver by applying the Ford Performance +
