About The Position

The Friction Stir Weld - FSW Operator is responsible for producing high-quality welds from aluminum by working from blueprints, work orders, and verbal instructions. This role may involve programming, setting up, and operating CNC welding machines and a panel saw. The operator must excel in a safety-based culture, ensuring adherence to all work practices, company policies, and procedures. Key responsibilities include operating machinery, performing routine maintenance, and maintaining professional communication to ensure efficient and safe operations. Overtime may be required, and other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Prior CNC experience.
  • Ability to read digital calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to calculate side lengths and/or angles using trigonometric charts and tables.
  • Must be able to read profile drawings.
  • Demonstrate leadership and organization skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to produce defect-free parts.
  • Ability to read and understand job sheets, work instructions and route tags.
  • Ability to read calipers, depth gauge and tape measure and utilize applicable measuring equipment, work instructions and control plans.
  • Demonstrate ability to set up and operate equipment without supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to run equipment without breakdown and maintain productivity based on historical run times.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout, and other safety related issues.
  • Familiarity with PLEX Control Panel.
  • Familiarity with FSW1 - Bond LS7 Shutdown Procedure.
  • Familiarity with FSW2 - Bond LS7 Startup Procedure.
  • Familiarity with FSW3 - Bond LS7 Pin Tool Change.
  • Familiarity with FSW6 - Weld Prepping an Extrusion for FSW.
  • Familiarity with FSW7 - Flash Removal.
  • Familiarity with FSW9 - Friction Stir Welding Control Plan.

  • Operates forklifts and Cranes.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality welds from aluminum.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC welding machines and panel saw.
  • Ensure all work practices and company policies/procedures are followed.
  • Read digital calipers and micrometers.
  • Calculate side lengths and/or angles using trigonometric charts and tables.
  • Read profile drawings.
  • Demonstrate leadership and organization skills.
  • Produce defect-free parts.
  • Use PLEX Control Panel for check sheets and recording production.
  • Complete form or process sheets for FSW in PLEX.
  • Perform routine maintenance and report major issues to a supervisor.
  • Operate forklifts and cranes.
  • Operate machines in the Fabrication department when production is slow in FSW.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Read and understand job sheets, work instructions, and route tags.
  • Utilize applicable measuring equipment, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Set up and operate equipment without supervision.
  • Run equipment without breakdown and maintain productivity based on historical run times.
  • Complete all applicable paperwork associated with this job title.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and other safety-related procedures.
  • Follow specific procedures including F1, F2, FSW1, FSW2, FSW3, FSW6, FSW7, and FSW9.
