About The Position

Lake Central High School is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to direct the Freshman play for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for theater and education, with a strong ability to inspire and engage high school students. This seasonal position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative environment, where students can explore their creativity, develop their acting skills, and gain confidence on stage.

Requirements

  • Previous experience directing high school theater productions or working with youth in a theatrical setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of theater production processes, including acting techniques, stage direction, and technical aspects of theater.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals and performances during the production season.
  • A passion for fostering creativity and a love for the performing arts among high school students.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Education, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a vision for the Freshman play that aligns with the school’s artistic goals and educational objectives (4 one act plays directed by upperclassmen starring freshman).
  • Conduct auditions and cast the play, ensuring a fair and inclusive process for all participants.
  • Collaborate with students to develop their characters and improve their acting skills through rehearsals and workshops.
  • Oversee all aspects of production, including set design, costumes, lighting, and sound, working with the technical crew and student volunteers.
  • Schedule and lead regular rehearsals, providing constructive feedback and guidance to students (minimum 3-4 times per week).
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding production details, schedules, and expectations.
  • Organize and promote performances, ensuring a successful show that showcases the talents of the students.
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes teamwork, creativity, and personal growth among students.
  • Manage the budget for the production, ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently.
