About The Position

The Fresh Lead is a leadership position responsible for overseeing fresh produce operations, ensuring product quality, managing team performance, and delivering an excellent customer experience in the store’s fresh department. Under the direction of the Assistant Store Manager, the Fresh Lead works alongside the team and supports a collaborative, community-oriented neighborhood market focused on fresh, organic, and local products. The role includes engaging customers, educating them about fresh products, managing deliveries and produce displays, following food-safety procedures, and assigning and overseeing the daily work of fresh department partners. Fresh Leads are expected to embody The Giant Company’s mission of “inspiring better days for our customers and neighbors.”

Requirements

Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of fresh produce, seasonal offerings, and food safety standards.
Ability to lead, motivate, and train team members effectively.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly, make eye contact, smile, and say hello.
Build rapport with the neighborhood and remain approachable to customers.
Educate customers and team members about fresh products, answer questions, and offer meal ideas or cooking tips.
Operate self-checkout efficiently and return promptly to assist customers.
Receive, unload, store, and verify deliveries.
Supervise stocking, product rotation, and shrinkage recording.
Create informative displays and seasonal promotions.
Implement food sampling programs to support sales and customer engagement.
Follow food handling and safety procedures.
Assign and oversee daily tasks for fresh department partners.
Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment.
Train and empower team members to become knowledgeable product experts.
Identify process improvements and share solutions with the team.
