About The Position

The Fresh Flower Selector selects orders from pick tickets and work orders in a refrigerated fresh flower area. The role calls for a self-motivated, organized, accurate person who is willing to assist with customer needs. Duties may evolve with the business. The cooler is kept at 36º to 42º F. The business operates seven days a week; the specific schedule is discussed during the interview process and may change with business fluctuations and holidays. The position is accountable to the General Manager and Cut Flower Buyer and has no direct reports. It involves selecting and handling fresh flower products, maintaining quality and inventory, receiving deliveries, and keeping the cooler and work area clean. The employee may also assist with packing and processing flowers. The role has daily contact with employees, customers, and the general public and provides access to confidential pricing information.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
Customer-service orientation and clear, effective communication skills.
Basic working knowledge of computers and ability to operate menu-driven programs using a mouse, 10-key keypad, and alphanumeric keyboard.
Ability to read and follow MSDS information on products.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
Ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
Ability to file, post, sort, and organize materials and paperwork.
Ability to work in a refrigerated environment.
Ability to perform light to moderate work and frequently exert or lift 10–50 pounds.
Ability to perform climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Visual abilities including clarity at all distances, color and peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Responsibilities

Select orders from pick tickets and work orders.
Rotate fresh flower products daily.
Perform general quality control on fresh flower products and report issues to the Cut Flower Buyer.
Check in trucks and place fresh flower products in the appropriate cooler location.
Assist with weekly fresh flower inventory counts.
Handle packaging materials and follow proper care and handling procedures for fresh flowers.
Clean the cooler and maintain a neat work area.
Create a friendly work environment and report to work as scheduled and on time.
Assist in the packing area as needed, including packing orders, strapping boxes, and labeling boxes for delivery routes.
Process fresh flowers by cutting them and placing them into holding solution.
Clean containers and equipment used in fresh flower processing.
Perform other duties as assigned.
