About The Position

The Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) aims to provide children in Kahnawà:ke with a comprehensive education that prepares them for future careers. This mission is executed by the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) and the KEC administrative team. KEC oversees three schools in the Kahnawà:ke community and manages post-secondary administration. The Classroom/Subject Teacher role is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a standards-based instructional program designed to help students reach their full academic potential while also addressing their social, emotional, and physical development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education degree or related field teaching degree OR working towards a Bachelor of Education degree and previous teaching experience OR Teaching certificate with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Solid knowledge of subject matter for all subjects and courses in the assigned program of studies

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that promote active learning.
  • Ensure short-term and long-term planning using weekly, monthly, and yearly plans to maintain program sequence and continuity.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced instructional program.
  • Assist in the development of culturally relevant, integrated, cooperative, and student-centered teaching methods, materials, and resources.
  • Utilize various communication techniques, focusing on questioning, group discussions, and student-centered conferences.
  • Support the inclusion and integration of students with special needs.
  • Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process with the Student Services Team and monitor IEPs weekly.
  • Encourage and monitor individual student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
  • Encourage creative, experiential, and cooperative participation from all students.
  • Regularly communicate student progress and needs to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Observe student performance and development.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Provide timely and appropriate feedback to students on their work.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, projects, and assignments promptly.
  • Employ diverse evaluation methods, including observation, checklists, tests, conferences, and portfolios.
  • Administer tests and exams according to established procedures to assess ongoing student learning and academic skills.
  • Prepare and submit required report cards and forms three times a year by established deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Participate in required school and parent meetings.
  • Oversee student behavior and conduct throughout the school day.
  • Organize the classroom to create an environment conducive to both cooperative and independent work and study.
  • Integrate the school, community, and natural environments to enhance student learning.
  • Manage student behavior and maintain classroom discipline by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures aligned with KEC's disciplinary systems.
  • Respond appropriately to students' diverse needs, aptitudes, and learning styles.
  • Collaborate in developing and achieving KEC's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Support the implementation of school rules, policies, and procedures for general school operations.
  • Participate collaboratively in the formative and summative evaluation process using the established Performance Appraisal process.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
