About The Position

Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC, has an opening for a Secondary School Art Teacher – Part-time (20 hours/week) for the 2026-2027 school year. This position reports to the Secondary School Director and is part of the Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA). The salary range is $25,954.12 – $55,212.12 annually, pro-rated for a 50% FTE. The school is a co-educational day school with approximately 1,300 students from Preschool to 12th grade, offering a blend of French and English curricula. The Secondary School Art Teacher is responsible for cultivating an appreciation for aesthetics and creative expression in secondary students (Middle and High School). French is the language of instruction. The role involves delivering high-quality instruction, managing studio assets safely, and showcasing student work. Requirements

Possess a four-year post-secondary degree (Bachelor's or higher) in a related field from an accredited college or university
Native-like French fluency and advanced English proficiency required
Demonstrate exceptional commitment to and ability to engage students and help them develop their social, creative, and academic skills
Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, parents, and community members
Ability to recognize and respond to the individual and cultural differences of students and to use diverse teaching methods that promote academic success and build an equitable classroom community
Ability to enforce high standards for student behavior
Excellent organization and time management skills

Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging visual arts instruction covering drawing, painting, lettering, design principles, elements of art, and art history.
Demonstrate diverse studio techniques and mediums, including drawing media, masters' techniques, and acrylic paint applications (dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, and monoprinting).
Foster aesthetic concepts, qualitative analysis, and critical appreciation of art among students.
Differentiate instruction through individual and small-group learning activities to accommodate students with varying intellectual, language, and artistic abilities.
Instruct students on the safe handling, proper care, and maintenance of art tools, equipment, and studio materials.
Maintain an organized workspace and inventory control system for storage areas to prevent loss or damage and streamline distribution.
Select, order, and maintain inventory records for books, art supplies, tools, and instructional aids within allocated parameters.
Plan, organize, and curate art displays and exhibitions throughout the campus and local community to showcase student achievements.
Supervise students in various school settings and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
Actively participate in parent-teacher meetings, faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
Create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the intellectual, social, and emotional development of all students.
Monitor and evaluate student progress, keep accurate records, and prepare detailed quarterly reports.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance and demonstrate conscientious and ethical behavior during interactions with students, parents, community agencies, and colleagues.
