About The Position

The Weights & Inspections function sits at the intersection of revenue integrity, operational precision, and customer trust. This role exists to ensure that every shipment moving through the network is accurately classified, properly documented, and compliant with tariff and safety standards—while also identifying missed revenue opportunities. As freight complexity increases and customer expectations rise, the business depends on disciplined inspection processes to protect margins, maintain service quality, and uphold operational standards. The Freight Quality Inspector plays a direct role in strengthening accuracy across the network, reducing rework, and providing actionable feedback to operations, sales, and terminal leadership. Success in this role means driving measurable improvements in shipment accuracy, minimizing revenue leakage, and elevating the consistency of freight handling across the facility.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 2–3 years of experience in freight operations, inspections, or a related logistics environment
  • Proficiency with personal computers, including email, spreadsheets, and database systems
  • Advanced mathematical capabilities, including statistical analysis and data interpretation
  • Ability to create reports, document procedures, and clearly communicate findings
  • Experience handling sensitive business and customer data with a high degree of confidentiality
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with operations, management, and customer-facing teams

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of freight classification, weight/density principles, and inspection processes preferred
  • Experience with AS/400 or industry-specific systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Execute shipment inspection and revenue capture: Inspect inbound and outbound shipments to identify reweigh, reclass, and revenue recovery opportunities. Accurately enter shipment changes based on physical inspections and dimensioning systems. Ensure proper freight classification, density calculations, and tariff application. Maintain strict adherence to inspection standards to protect revenue integrity.
  • Elevate operational quality and consistency: Conduct quality inspections on loaded freight to ensure secure, compliant, and damage-free movement. Partner with dock operations to improve load quality and reduce service failures. Identify recurring issues and drive corrective actions with terminal teams. Participate in daily pre-shift and service center meetings to reinforce expectations.
  • Maintain equipment and facility standards: Inspect weights & inspections equipment, dock tools, and overall facility conditions. Escalate maintenance or safety concerns proactively to minimize downtime and risk. Ensure all inspection tools are calibrated, functional, and used correctly. Support a safe, organized, and performance-driven work environment.
  • Enable cross-functional alignment: Collaborate with terminal leadership and sales teams to provide feedback on customer accounts and freight patterns. Communicate inspection findings clearly to influence operational and commercial decisions. Build strong working relationships across operations, safety, and revenue management teams.
  • Train and strengthen inspection capability: Train dock personnel on proper reweigh procedures and inspection standards. Reinforce best practices to improve consistency and reduce errors across shifts. Act as a subject matter resource for inspection processes and compliance requirements. Support a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement.
