The Freight Operations Supervisor will lead and supervise all aspects of freight operations, developing and implementing strategic work procedures to meet evolving departmental demands. This role involves evaluating, managing, assigning, and supervising workloads and tasks, as well as supervising hourly staff across various operations and acting as the primary point of contact for workplace concerns. The supervisor will ensure production goals are met by managing tonnage, payroll, and other administrative functions, and will plan hourly employee schedules to meet daily operations goals and lower costs. A key responsibility is enforcing all company, FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC, and DOT policies, rules, regulations, and laws, and implementing applicable workplace policies and procedures to optimize network performance. The role also ensures customer freight is processed, handled, loaded, and delivered timely and damage-free. Additionally, the supervisor will coach and develop employees on proper techniques and quality requirements, conduct new hire employee evaluations, and determine corrective actions for policy violations. They will effectively direct a team to consistently meet or exceed productivity goals, make recommendations regarding hiring, suspension, and termination, and develop and present action plans to improve load average and model compliance. Participation in internal safety and engagement committees, training employees on safety rules and processes, and monitoring and maintaining organization within the shift for safety and productivity are also crucial. The supervisor will conduct daily staff meetings, communicate corporate messages and policy revisions, and inspect working conditions of tools and equipment, directing corrections for any adverse conditions. Providing instruction, analyses, suggestions, and ideas for operational improvement, acting as a champion of XPO values, and minimizing shipment rehandle by prioritizing direct loading, headloads, and sector loading while maintaining quality standards are also part of the role.
