About The Position

CrossCountry Freight Solutions is hiring a Freight Handler in Des Moines, Iowa. This safety-sensitive warehouse position involves loading and unloading freight from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or handcarts. Freight Handlers are trained and certified to operate safety-sensitive equipment. The role uses handheld scanners to track and document freight, and requires identifying, labeling, staging, and inspecting freight. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Compensation is $24.00 per hour. The position is non-exempt and has no direct reports. It reports to the Service Center Manager.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
At least six months of verifiable forklift experience.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment skills assessment.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
Must be able to frequently squat and crouch to handle freight.
Must be able to maneuver freight or pallets weighing up to 2,500 pounds onto a dolly or cart with up to 130 pounds of force, with mechanical aid.
Must be able to carry freight weighing up to 40 pounds for a distance of up to 20 feet.
Must be able to help load and unload full trailers of freight weighing up to 45,000 pounds with mechanical aid.
Must be able to open and close cargo doors and climb into and out of vehicles.

Responsibilities

Safely load and unload trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or handcarts.
Use handheld scanners to track and document freight through the network.
Identify, sticker, and stage inbound freight accurately.
Verify freight condition to ensure it meets quality standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
