Freight Agent (Independent Contractor)
About The Position
Primary Freight is seeking experienced Freight Agents to join their network as independent contractors. This is a 1099 contract position with compensation based entirely on commission, meaning there is no base salary. This structure is ideal for agents who possess prior freight experience and have an established or transferable book of business. The role involves bringing customer relationships and booking freight, while Primary Freight handles the back office operations, technology, insurance, and carrier network, allowing agents to concentrate on moving loads and expanding their client base.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation
- An existing or transferable book of business, or demonstrated ability to build one
- Working knowledge of freight brokerage operations and carrier negotiation
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem solving skills
- Background in customer service and account management
Responsibilities
- Prospect and contact potential shipping customers to build client relationships
- Quote, book, and manage shipments from pickup through delivery
- Negotiate rates with carriers and customers
- Track loads and communicate proactively with shippers and carriers
- Complete shipment documentation and resolve transit issues as they arise
