WSP is seeking a full-time Freeway Operator I to monitor freeway management systems (FMS) and respond to traffic and incident management events. The role requires familiarity with the District’s freeway system and ITS applications. Operators will use CCTV, detector data, and other tools to monitor freeway status, enter event information into SunGuide software, and disseminate information via ITS devices, websites, and the Florida 511 system. They will also coordinate with internal staff, law enforcement, and external agencies, dispatch Road Ranger Service Patrols, manage Wrong Way Driver events, and report equipment faults. The position involves monitoring arterial operations, performing ITS infrastructure checks, coordinating with maintenance staff, and adhering to FDOT District 1 policies and procedures. Responsibilities include posting detour routes, assisting with report data collection, and making configuration changes in SunGuide. The role also involves producing operations reports, managing systems like TPAS and Wrong Way Driver Detection, and assisting with after-action reviews for major incidents. Operators will coordinate with FDOT and FHP to dispatch the Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) Vendor and manage events using the SunGuide GUI and its devices. They will also inform Emergency Services of traffic incidents and perform other assigned tasks.
