About The Position

Piedmont Global is seeking Freelance Tamil, Mandarin, and Marathi Interpreters for in-person educational interpreting assignments in the Downingtown, PA area. These positions involve interpreting for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Testing. Interpreters will be expected to read multiple-choice questions and answers, read open-ended questions, and transcribe responses to open-ended questions. These are "1099" (Independent Contractor) positions.

Requirements

• Hold a valid US driver’s license, or any US government-issued valid form of identification.
• Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
• Federal Criminal History Record Check (fingerprinting required)
• Agree to Sign a Confidentiality Agreement, complete an online training and provide certificate and complete 1-hr in person training morning first day of testing
• At least two (2) years of interpreting experience, paid or as a volunteer
• Two (2) relevant professional references that can vouch for the candidate’s work as an interpreter OR one (1) relevant professional reference and one (1) relevant professional letter of recommendation
• Native-level proficiency in English and another language.

Nice To Haves

• University degree in Interpretation
• Certificate of professional interpreter training (at least 40 hours of training).
• Proof of certifications
• Test results from other organizations (testing centers, other LSPs, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Serve as an Interpreter between a wide range of people with diverse voices, accents, speaking tempos and personalities.
• Provide parties with clear and exact interpretations of verbal communication with no additions or omissions.
• Provide interpretations of questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations, and other forms of verbal communication.
• Render sight translations of documents and other written materials, as needed.
• Impart thought, purpose, spirit, emotions, and tone of speaker from source language into target language, and vice-versa.
• Inform relevant parties of any factor that may hinder your performance.
• Comply with applicable ethics and standards.
