About The Position

The Fraud Investigator Senior Specialist conducts investigations related to suspected fraud and other financial crimes involving customers, teammates, vendors, or third parties. This role analyzes and documents investigative findings, maintains case records, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate, and supports the organization's efforts to identify, mitigate, and manage financial crime risk.

Requirements

Typically requires 7+ years relevant experience
Advanced knowledge of fraud investigations, financial crimes risk management, investigative methodologies, and case management practices.
Working knowledge of applicable banking laws, regulations, and guidance related to fraud, anti-money laundering (AML), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and financial crimes compliance.
Ability to investigate complex and non-routine matters while exercising sound judgment and independent decision-making.
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and suspicious activity.
Ability to communicate complex fraud and financial crime issues clearly and effectively to management, business partners, customers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
Proficiency in preparing investigative documentation, reports, and case files while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
Knowledge of financial institution operations, products, services, systems, and fraud risk controls.
Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and manage multiple investigations simultaneously.

Responsibilities

Investigate suspected incidents of internal and external fraud, financial crimes, and other potentially illegal activity involving customers, teammates, vendors, and third parties.
Conduct detailed reviews of fraud alerts, cases, referrals, and other investigative leads to determine appropriate disposition and identify potentially suspicious activity.
Document investigative findings, maintain case records, and preserve evidence in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from multiple sources to support investigations and identify fraud schemes, trends, and emerging risks.
Coordinate information gathering and reporting activities with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, and other authorized parties as appropriate.
Serve as a point of contact for internal business units regarding fraud investigations, suspicious activity, and financial crime-related concerns.
Conduct customer outreach when necessary to support investigations, obtain information, or resolve fraud-related matters.
Prepare investigative reports, case summaries, and supporting documentation for management, regulatory, legal, and law enforcement purposes.
Assist in the identification, analysis, and communication of fraud trends, threats, and typologies and provide recommendations to strengthen fraud prevention and risk mitigation efforts.
Review investigative processes and procedures and recommend improvements to enhance operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and risk management practices.
Present evidence and investigative findings in legal proceedings or court as required.
Participate in professional development opportunities and remain current on applicable fraud, AML, BSA, and financial crime regulations, industry trends, and investigative techniques.
Provide guidance, training, and support to less experienced team members and assist with daily operational activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
