As the Fractional IT Director, you will provide experienced, part-time IT leadership that establishes priorities, guides investment decisions, and ensures MSP and internal resources deliver measurable progress against the company’s internal IT roadmap. This is an hourly, non-exempt role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years experience in a small or mid-sized business; including having held position titles such as IT Director, Head of IT, or senior IT operations leader.
  • Demonstrated success managing an outsourced MSP or IT service provider, including performance, projects, contracts, and escalation.
  • Strong working knowledge of infrastructure, cloud services, cybersecurity, identity, endpoint management, business applications, and IT governance.
  • Able to operate strategically while driving practical execution within limited time and budget.
  • Independent, direct, organized, and comfortable advising executives without requiring a large internal team.
  • Ability to devote approximately 24 hours per month to work

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the internal IT strategy, roadmap, priorities, standards, and budget recommendations.
  • Own the MSP relationship, including priorities, work allocation, performance, accountability, and value received.
  • Direct and track MSP-led initiatives from definition through completion, including scope, dependencies, status, and outcomes.
  • Review and challenge MSP recommendations, proposals, projects, and recurring services before leadership approval.
  • Advise the executive team on technology, cybersecurity, risk, lifecycle planning, and internal IT investment decisions.
  • Coordinate and prioritize Internal IT staff’s tasks and initiatives in alignment with the approved roadmap.
  • Provide Internal IT staff’s manager with fact-based observations and input for coaching and performance feedback.
  • Clarify ownership and handoffs among MSP, Internal IT staff, company leadership, and other internal resources.
  • Provide a concise monthly update covering progress, upcoming priorities, decisions needed, risks, and vendor performance.
